STUDY IN CHINA

(1) China Summer Program

(2) Education Abroad Program

The University of Alberta’s Education Abroad Program coordinates over 100 summer, term and year study abroad programs to over 35 countries including China. The Education Abroad Program currently offers summer, term and year exchange programs at the following universities in China:

  • University of Hong Kong (China)
  • Chinese University of Hong Kong (China)
  • China Foreign Affairs University (Beijing, China)  

STUDY IN JAPAN (OPPORTUNITIES FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS)

(1) Summer Program in Kyoto

(2) Education Abroad Program

The University of Alberta’s Education Abroad Program coordinates over 100 summer, term and year study abroad programs to over 35 countries including Japan. The Education Abroad Program currently offers summer, term and year exchange programs at the following universities in Japan:
 
  • Chiba University (Japan)
  • Hokkaido University (Japan)
  • Shizuoka University (Japan)
  • International Christian University (Japan)
  • Sophia University (Japan)
  • Meiji University (Japan)

(3) JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR SHORT-TERM STUDY IN JAPAN

  • This scholarship is available for qualified international students accepted by Japanese universities or graduate schools under the student exchange agreement on a short-term basis from about three months to one year.
  • No requirement as to the level of Japanese.
  • You will study at one of the University of Alberta’s formal exchange partners in Japan (see the University of Alberta’s  Education Abroad Program for a list of partner universities in Japan: www.international.ualberta.ca/goabroad)

  • Monthly stipend of 80,000 Yen
  • Application Information: University of Alberta students who wish to be considered for this scholarship must first apply and be selected to participate on a formal exchange program at one of the U of A’s formal partner universities in Japan through the Education Abroad Program. Once you have been accepted to study in Japan as an exchange student, the Education Abroad Program will select a candidate to nominate to the Japanese host university and the Japanese institution will make the final decision on the JASSO Scholarship recipient. 

(4) Monbusho (Japanese Ministry of Education) Nihongo/Nihonbunka Kenshu

  • One year (October - September in the following year).
  • Must be a Japanese Language & Literature major. 
  • Advanced-level (300-level and up) Japanese is required in order to study in the Japanese university system.
  • You will study at one of the University of Alberta’s formal exchange partners in Japan (see the University of Alberta’s  Education Abroad Program for a list of partner universities in Japan: www.international.ualberta.ca/goabroad)
  • Scholarship provided (134,000 yen per month)
  • Some conditions may apply.
  • Application Information: University of Alberta students who wish to be considered for this scholarship must first apply and be selected to participate on a formal exchange program at one of the U of A’s formal partner universities in Japan through the Education Abroad Program. Once you have been accepted to study in Japan as an exchange student, the Education Abroad Program will select a candidate to nominate to the Japanese host university and the Japanese institution will make the final decision on the Monbusho Scholarship recipient. 

(5) Faculty of Business exchange programme

  • Students in the Faculty of Business may be able to study at either Sophia U, or Nagoya Shoka U. For details, contact the Faculty. 

(6) Japan Foundation Nihongo Seiseki Yuushuusha Kenshuu Program (Study Tour for Outstanding Students of Japanese Language)

  • An opportunity for a two-week-long trip to Japan. The information regarding this program will be announced once we hear from the Japanese consulate.

Study in Taiwan

(1) Taiwan Scholarship Program

    Scholarships available for Mandarin Chinese language study in Taiwan. Opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students.  Please see the following guidelines and applications:
